ShorelinesPort Ludlow is located around the shores of Port Ludlow Bay. All homes in Port Ludlow are within an easy 1-15 minute walk to the Puget Sound shoreline. Now, depending on where your home is located in Port Ludlow, walking back home may involve walking up some steep hills and thus make take a lot longer. All Port Ludlow homeowners are eligible to participate in WSU's Shore Stewards program. "Shore Stewards" is a program for shoreline and streamside landowners in Jefferson, Mason, and Kitsap counties. You do not have to have a waterfront home to participate because all Port Ludlow residents are shoreline owners via property owned by our homeowners associations such as the Ludlow Maintenance Commission and the South Bay Community Alliance. The Shore Stewards program is a wonderful resource to help you take care of your property and protect Puget Sound. Additionally, if you do have a waterfront home, you can receive free information on how to best maintain your bluff. Shoreline Resources
SoilsPort Ludlow and the Hood Canal area's geology has been heavily influenced by glaciation, which has left varying soil layers. These layers include a weathered zone (including topsoil), and thick deposits of sand, gravel, and glacial till (hard pan, which is clay-like). The top soil types in Port Ludlow vary depending on the location. The Port Ludlow garden club is a good source of information on how to best landscape the various soil types in your yard. |
